606v2 World Tour 2012!

I thought it’d be fun to organise an ”official” competition during 2012 where 606v2 members give their predictions for Grand Slam- and Masters 1000 events. Obviously we’re all experts here, but it would be interesting to see who is actually the most knowledgeable expert Very Happy

The concept is as follows:

Predict the quarter-, semi- and finalists plus the winner of Grand Slam and Masters 1000 events in 2012
For each Grand Slam quarter-finalist: 10 points (8x 10 = 80 points maximum)
For each Grand Slam semi-finalist: 90 points (4x 90 = 360 points maximum)
For each Grand Slam finalist: 380 points (2x 380 = 760 points maximum)
For a Grand Slam winner: 800 points
So a perfectly predicted Grand Slam gives you 2000 points!
For Masters 1000 tournaments: same logic but only half the points of a Grand Slam

Predictions to be submitted on 606v2 (for each event I will open a thread) latest by 22:00 GMT on the Saturday before each tournament starts (deadline reminders will be posted). So you have time to study the draws!
A YTD "world ranking" will be maintained and published by prostaff85 after each event.
No prize money, we play for the honour of being a true expert!

Below is an example of the type of table I will publish after each Grand Slam and Masters 1000 event of 2012.

Never before have we had such a close finish! There are two winners with 1,990 points (just one QF'ist wrong), closely followed by four others with 1,980 points (two QF'ists wrong).
So Roland Garros has been by far the most predictable tournament of the year.

Some time ago, after losing his leading position on the 606v2 World Tour, emancipator warned us - just like his distant relative the terminator - that he will be back:

Now this is exactly what happened at Wimbledon: by a clear margin emancipator beat the rest of the field - predicting both the final and the semi-finals correctly clap

Runner-up this time was laverfan who also predicted a Federer-Murray final with the Swiss 'stamping down his authority'. The bronze medal went to summerblues.

Well done to LK and LF for their excellent performances at the recent Masters events and cheers to ProStaff85 for all the work in organising this tournament. Vacation issues mean it is uncertain I'll be able to mount a challenge at the USOpen, but I'll do my best

Also legendkillarV2 and LuvSports! predicted a Murray win over Djokovic, but carrieg4 additionally had one of the losing semi-finalists (Ferrer) correct - well done!

There was also a record set for the least points scored in a Grand Slam with the undersigned scoring only 40 points Erm

With his good result in New York, legendkillarV2 took over the world #1 position. I haven't yet seen any threads speculating on who will be the year-end #1 on 606v2!

For the Shanghai event - already some weeks ago - there were unfortunately only 5 participants, and a surprise winner who predicted both semis and the final correctly:

sirfredperry was runner-up and almost closed the gap to current world #1 legendkillarV2. LK is now leading by only 40 points (!) so the last event of this season will be decisive.
It looks like it will be between just these two now, although theoretically also Nore Staat could still take the top spot.

This evening in Paris, after 4 Slams and almost 9 Masters events, a single match was decisive for the 606v2 World Tour (!).

With all the pre-tournament favourites out, it was between 2 men only: Tsonga vs. Ferrer. Jo-Willy was backed up by sirfredperry, while legendkillarV2 stood behind his favourite Daveeeed.

Curses. Pipped at the (net) post. Well done LKV2. Paris became a real stab in the dark with all the withdrawals. Funniest thing was watching, Berdbrain, in a match he probably planned to lose against Simon, taking a lead in the second set before remembering the script and dropping the last five games.
Even then he was 40-0 up when Simon served for the match before again getting back on script and losing the final five points. Hilarious.
Like to echo thanks for all the organising that went into the competition. Do hope everyone - plus others - will be back for 2013.
