606v2 World Tour 2012!

First topic message reminder :

606v2 World Tour 2012!

I thought it’d be fun to organise an ”official” competition during 2012 where 606v2 members give their predictions for Grand Slam- and Masters 1000 events. Obviously we’re all experts here, but it would be interesting to see who is actually the most knowledgeable expert    

The concept is as follows:

• Predict the quarter-, semi- and finalists plus the winner of  Grand Slam and Masters 1000 events in 2012
  
• For each Grand Slam quarter-finalist: 10 points (8x 10 = 80 points maximum)
  
• For each Grand Slam semi-finalist: 90 points (4x 90 = 360 points maximum)
  
• For each Grand Slam finalist: 380 points (2x 380 = 760 points maximum)
  
• For a Grand Slam winner: 800 points
  
• So a perfectly predicted Grand Slam gives you 2000 points!
  
• For Masters 1000 tournaments: same logic but only half the points of a Grand Slam
  

Predictions to be submitted on 606v2 (for each event I will open a thread) latest by 22:00 GMT on the Saturday before each tournament starts (deadline reminders will be posted). So you have time to study the draws!
A YTD "world ranking" will be maintained and published by prostaff85 after each event.
No prize money, we play for the honour of being a true expert!

Below is an example of the type of table I will publish after each Grand Slam and Masters 1000 event of 2012.

OK I'll try, but it won't be until tomorrow morning. I am crazy enough about tennis to stay up to see a live match, but staying up just for the drawing ceremony would be too much

Gosh, I forgot I'd done predictions and have only just checked and have seen that I'm a (modest!) first. After getting 10th in the Battle of the Boards for the AO, I can die happy now.

Yes that was well done! 1990 points (out of 2000) is very impressive indeed, and may not get beaten any time soon.

Djokovic is the big favorite to win, with 7 votes, ahead of Nadal (5) and Murray (4).

Only one person predicts Federer to win

I shall carry on not tipping Fed to win, as it seem to bring him luck. Doubt whether there will be so few backing him in future prediction games, given his marvellous run of form of late.

On a serious note: plenty of people here were hoping for a Federer win, but you were the only one who dared to predict it. Well done!

Emancipator. Dare you go for a Fed win in Miami as well ? He's done the IW-Miami double before and Nole managed it last year, so anything's possible. Also wonder if there's anyone brave enough to predict that neither Nole nor Rafa will make the final again ?

Once again, as in all matters of such importance, I will consult the Eastern Oracle and the divine Sylvia before fortelling the outcome.

So we have a slamless number one now, amazing.

I'm obviously seething because Indian Wells has been horrendous for me.

And the winner of 'Miami' was a debutant on the 606v2 World Tour...

Spuranik, a late entry for this event, predicted the final correctly and also scored points with Nadal as losing semi-finalist and Fish and Tsonga as losing quarter-finalists.

Fernando was runner-up in Miami, lifting him to #3 in the world rankings.
Emancipator successfully defended his #1 position with sirfredperry just behind him.

I sense a late surge by myself. I reckon I will peak at the US Open.

Btw, if you always take the same picks as me I'll never be able to catch you!

We have 14 participants and 12 are predicting a Djokovic-Nadal final (7 picking Djokovic to win vs. 5 Nadal).
If these two guys don't make it to the final it would be a major surprise.

I guess the predictions for Roland Garros will be similar, or would the presence of Federer and Del Potro make a difference?

For the first time on the 606v2 World Tour we have two winners! (both scored 945 points in Monte Carlo, which is the best YTD score for a Masters 1000 event)

I am wondering if I could finetune the scoring system, e.g. by taking pre-tournament odds into account.
This would motivate people to pick outsiders like Isner or Berdych to do well, which should be rewarded if they really do.

Right now it pays off to play 'defensively' (just like on the real ATP tour )
