surrey vs worcestershire match thread
First topic message reminder :
Chris Adams has named for a thirteen man squad for Surrey’s LV=County Championship match against Worcestershire this week.
Kevin Pietersen is included in the Surrey squad for the first time this season having returned from a winter with England and playing in the Indian Premier League with the Delhi Daredevils. Also included is George Edwards, who has been in excellent form with the ball for the Surrey Second XI.
Jade Dernbach and Stuart Meaker are both away with the England Lions who play the West Indies in Northampton this week.
The Surrey squad to play Worcestershire at New Road on Wednesday 9th May, Thursday 10th May, Friday 11th May and Saturday 12th May:
Rory Hamilton-Brown (capt)
Jacques Rudolph
Steven Davies
Mark Ramprakash
Kevin Pietersen
Zander de Bruyn
Tom Maynard
Jason Roy
Chris Jordan
Gareth Batty
Jon Lewis
Tim Linley
George Edwards
with that many batsmen no way roy will play so its out of the viscount & edwards for the last spot or maybe not

Re: surrey vs worcestershire match thread
Surrey declare on 431-7.
Worcs need 260 off the 52 overs that remain. That's exactly 5 an over. Too much for Worcs to win. Do we have enough time to get them all out? With the improved conditions, I doubt it but lets hope ....

A draw by a long way the most likely result especially as Worcs probably won't chase for victory (need 220 off 37 overs at tea). Also bearing in mind that our demon spinner is Nora!
But you never know.....

I'm sure Worcs will be happy to bat the session out now.Corporalhumblebucket wrote:A draw by a long way the most likely result especially as Worcs probably won't chase for victory (need 220 off 37 overs at tea). Also bearing in mind that our demon spinner is Nora!

Extremely difficult for us to get 7 wickets in the final session but we can hope ....

Well played Edwards.....
Doubt we will win - but even so a decent effort to come right back into this match and end on top....

Yorks got 44 - 2 off last 10 overs.
Not exactly dithering.
Need another 50 off last 10ish.
Anyone at the ground, or listening on-line, know exactly how many overs to come?

Looks like we didn't quite have the cutting edge to polish off the innings. Meaker might have been useful....
But there again Boy George wouldn't have been playing.....

And that tame draw means that Gloucs take the honours as the only team to lose in the current round of matches!

Re: surrey vs worcestershire match thread
What a fantastic match that ended up as, massive credit to our lot for that fightback (well Hyphen and Wine Gums mainly). It has to be said that our rolling over when under pressure days are behind us and our explosive batting gives us a chance of winning matches that other teams just wouldn't have the time to win.
Must say that had Richardson been fit we probably would have lost but still great and so so close to a win. We could easily have 3 wins this season already but we only have 1 due to 3 runs and 2 wickets - so frustrating!
Congrats to Edwards for a great debut - ahead of the Viscount now in the pecking order? Probably not but he's a fantastic prospect. Also congratulations to both teams for a brilliant game of cricket, this is why we all love the Championship!

great post, Carrotdude! a game we could and probably should have lost, we almost end up winning! - certainly, when its on fire, our batting line up must be one of the best in the division! - trouble is, that doesn't often happen!.. I still feel if we can end up mid-table we will have done well...this season imho is all about consolidation and then maybe pushing on next season... still optomistic for a piece of silverware in one of the one dayers.... but I think mid-table is really the height of our ambition and I wouldn't rule out a relegation battle either.... A fantastic debut from Edwards too! so lots of positives apart from the 1st innings horror show! - stilll only 3 batting points thus far!.... weather forecast not great for next week so we could be looking at a draw against Durham!//still here's hoping

Just catching up... another great County Championship match, which fluctuated in all directions. Well done to both teams, but particularly Surrey for orchestrating the turnaround
