New shoes
Anyone got any recommendations?
Mine have been battered over the winter and are in an embarassing state. I have worn adidas for years, but the last few pairs have all worn at the inside heel within a few rounds. Though this hasn't particularly affected the performance until toward the end of their life, it annoys me, and I'm unlikely to go with Adidas this time. Only ever had one pair of footjoys and they were a nightmare, but cheap, so not ruling out a decent pair. I dislike Nike. Ecco spikeless look ok, but think I'd rather stick to a spiked pair.
Thanks

Re: New shoes
I've tried adidas, Nike but always come back to a decent pair of Footjoys. The new m projects look nice, or if you want something a bit more substantial, the DNA shoes look brilliant if a little pricey. My current pair aren't massively expensive, I used the MyJoys programme, had my feet measured and got a pair of contours to my own design in less than 3 weeks. The other beauty of the MyJoys programme is if you have different size feet, they'll accommodate that; I have one size 9½ and on size 10.

Re: New shoes
have had adidas and had same experience, comfy but inner heel disintegrates. Although just got a couple of pairs of last years adizero (the cheaper ones) at £40 a pop. Worn one a few times and nothing bad (yet). Looking at the adizero thread, I'll be steering clear of the 2014 ones. Wow.
I've always got on with Nike ones but prefer the more expensive ones as they seem to be significantly longer lasting than the cheaper ones.
Whenever it comes up on here I seem to recall Ecco get rave reviews pretty much all round and FJ seem very good.
Mate got some oakley ones which look good but are apparently "f**king uncomfortable".

Re: New shoes
Get some FootJoys. Aqualites were excellent. Not sure what my current pair are though...about ~£80 I think so not extortionate but pretty good.

Super
You need somewhere to try them on first, even if you do then order them online.

Never really find that these days Mac. I suppose if you've got problem feet or strange sizes you might.

Re: New shoes
I've gone with adidas for last 5 pairs and really like them, most recently adipure and tour360. Never had the issue with the heel, what model is that? The adipure's have leather inside heel so I assume it can't be those?
Footjoys look too fuddy duddy to me, exclusively a shoe for over 50's, although the new DNA look better. Footjoys spikeless casual range look like they are only suitable for shuffling around in an old peoples home.
Mate of mine has had several pairs of Puma shoes recently and loves them, very stable and comfortable. I never used to like the look of Nike shoes but recently they seem to look better.
I always think that a specialist sport shoe manufacturer (like nike, puma, etc) is ultimately going to produce the best shoes because they have the R&D and manufacturing expertise to deliver. If they are new to the market it may take them a few years to get it right, but these companies can use their technology from other sports and apply it to golf - that's where all the innovation has come from in recent years. I would never consider getting Callaway shoes for example.

Re: New shoes
Except what you get is often cr@p. They're too addicted to fashion, instead of function, so what you get is something that's designed to last maybe 12 months and then fall to bits so you can buy the next latest must-have shoes. Pity they still charge a price that's more appropriate for some hand-stitched boutique brogues.raycastleunited wrote:...I always think that a specialist sport shoe manufacturer (like nike, puma, etc) is ultimately going to produce the best shoes because they have the R&D and manufacturing expertise to deliver. I have a pair of (only used four times) Ecco Ladies' shoes to give away. Ideal for the masochistically-inclined who happen to be into shredded heels!

Not just me then. My (expensive!) Ecco mens' golf shoes ripped my heels to bits, despite being my normal size and feeling comfortable when trying them on.

Re: New shoes
I've always stuck to FJs and never had any issues - could just buy them and wear them without any breaking in etc. However, they always seemed to eventually crack across the top and I happened to mention this when buying a new pair. Turns out I've been wearing the wrong fitting for years and I needed a more narrow shoe.

I wonder if Miguel Angel Jimenez has to wear fuddy duddy shoes now that he has passed 50?

quite like the project-m and dna in the FJ range - turns out there will be a rep at our club on friday, so going along to have a mosey.

Re: New shoes
DNA are quite nice and discreet. Logo fairly minimal.
Saw a pair in the shop last week but the laces are atrocious pieces of dental floss. You just know you'd be tying your shoes up 10 times a round.

Re: New shoes
Talking of laces, has anyone tried the shoes where you turn a little wheel on your heel to tighten the laces ? I saw several last time I was shoe-shopping but haven't seen anyone actually wearing them.

I had a pair 3-4 years ago Plunky, quite liked them but for no particular reason went back to laces with the following pair. If I saw a pair of good shoes with that mechanism at a good bargain price again I'd happily have another pair.

Re: New shoes
Speaking of shoes, what is it with golfers and shoe horns, why would anyone need one of these things?
You see loads of them in the car park with them

Re: New shoes
I would hazard a guess that fat bellies are getting in the way of them bending over to put their shoes on hence the need for a shoe horn.

Eh? Pretty daft thing to say. Especially if one has a decent, traditional pair of leather shoes and wants to look after them.super_realist wrote:Shoe Horns are definitely one for inclusion in Golf Club W@nkers

Re: New shoes
How so Navy? I've never ever had a pair of shoes which were difficult to get on or required the use of a pensioners shoe-horn?

Even if it is an item for 'pensioners', what's the issue with that? You might need one some day...

Doubt it Navy. Why would I buy a pair of shoes which are difficult to put on?

Re: New shoes
Somehow i have hurt my foot in the last few days, when getting my right shoe on at the moment it is pretty painful. I wish i had a shoe horn in the house.

As an aside, had a look at Golf Club W@nkers for the first time...some pretty funny stuff there.

Re: New shoes
Yeah, that's the point I was getting at Navy, it's the sort of thing the site would make fun of i.e. If you use a shoe-horn, Tiger head cover, crown tees, black glove, putt with a glove on, squat down to put your tee in etc then you are a GCW.

Re: New shoes
Navy, do you use a shoe horn?
Super, people using a shoe horn in the car park should be shot on sight. Everyone knows that changing shoes in the car park is not permitted.

Anyone telling me I couldn't change my shoes (or any other article of clothing in the car park), would get both barrels.

Re: New shoes
The rep was doing shoe fittings, so turns out I'm not a 9.5-10, I'm a wide(/extra wide) fitting 8. Got a pair ordered - hopefully they'll be a perfect fit.barragan wrote:quite like the project-m and dna in the FJ range - turns out there will be a rep at our club on friday, so going along to have a mosey.
