Bit of a non event really. Verstappen always had it in hand, Alonso had an edge on Lewis until the tyre offset. Nobody behind them really in the game

One wonders whether Perez has been "broken". In his Red Bull career he started well off Verstappen's pace and then there were periods when it seemed he had closed the gap and had nailed the number two position, and now it seems he has fallen behind again. People say "Verstappen has the best car" and then others counter "yes, but Perez". I hope Williams have turned the corner. Albon said afterwards realistically 9th and 10th is the best they can currently challenge for if everybody finishes and usually it is the Alpines finishing in those positions + this circuit favors their car while other circuits don't. I also think this season we are seeing as many suspected that Russell is no Hamilton.

Re: F1 2023 season
Perez’s will certainly seems broken after the recent woeful effects in qualifying. It’s also telling Perez whilst an excellent driver, doesn’t have the same aggression as Verstappen - the he starts out of position.
If Verstappen starts 15-20, you know he’ll still end up P2 at worse. Yesterday there was never any feeling Perez could make the podium.
And yes obviously Verstappen is incredible but that’s the levels Perez needs to be competitive.

Re: F1 2023 season
When the Red Bull was miles clear, Perez was doing well and Max was cruising.
Now the Red Bull isn't quite as far ahead, Max is pushing harder to win and Perez is nowhere.
He's still a capable 2nd driver, but if Max was being consistently challenged for the WDC by a Hamilton/Leclerc/Alonso, he'd need Perez up there like he was in 2021.
I feel like Perez 2021 was proving a point after not being kept on by Racing Point, but that's worn off now.
The saving grace for Perez is there isn't an Alpha Tauri driver ready to step up and replace him like what happened to previously underperforming Red Bull drivers

Re: F1 2023 season
It’s worth mentioning Verstappen hit a bird yesterday and it was left lodged in his right front brake duct.
He still won easily.
The Red Bull is as dominant as ever but Perez is unable to match Verstappen.

There isn't a driver at Alpha Tauri, but there is a former Red Bull man as reserve driver...sitting, waiting in the wings...
Can see that switch happening at the end of the season if this continues

Re: F1 2023 season
Certainly Perez needs to find his form again after 3 pretty bad qualifying sessions but it seems a bit early to start replacing him. Caught out here more by changeable conditions than the previous 2 races is some mitigation. Has been a pretty reliable #2 before this.

Re: F1 2023 season
Sebastian Vettel recently rejoined the Red Bull stable, they say it because the German will try his hand at WEC. But if it's between Vettel and Ricciardo, Vettel would probably get the gig.

Think we're all still a little bit early on trying to replace a driver being talked up as the only competition for Max 3 races ago

That was everything to do with the car he drives and nothing to do with the abilities of the driver though
I agree with your point, but ultimately Perez is just 2017-2020 Bottas at this point, if that's what Red Bull want then he's not in any danger at all.

Re: F1 2023 season
To a degree but Perez was also producing some pretty good performances, particularly at street circuits before his Monaco crash. Now he's failed to reach Q3 in three straight races and his races are limited to recovery drives.
Needs a good drive in Austria next week, particularly needs to qualify well, but it does seem very soon to start talking up replacements (particularly when the mooted replacements are Riccardo on a gap year and Vettel coming out of retirement to do some exhibition stuff at the Nurburgring)

Ever since Perez was declared as being in the Championship race four races ago results have taken a nose dive while Verstappen has been imperious. Another pole for Verstappen, Ferrari best of the rest. Interesting qualifying. Norris excellent. Albon into Q3 again.

Mercedes horrorshow in sprint qualifying.
Hamilton only 18th
Russell made sprint q2 but suffered hydraulic leak so starts 15th.

Re: F1 2023 season
Max Verstappen crushes them at Spielberg once again - 5th consecutive win and 42nd career win moving passed Artyon Senna.
The end gap is not reflective as Verstappen pitted at the end to get fastest lap.

2. LeClerc
3. Perez
4. Sainz
5. Norris
6. Alonso
7. Hamilton
8. Russell
9. Gasly

Yet another crushing day for Mercedes, Hamilton was some 50 seconds off Verstappen(prior to Verstappen's late stop).

Re: F1 2023 season
So Aston Martin appealed the result of the race, citing the stewards didn't deal with track limit infringements correctly.
Long story short, post race 8 drivers received time penalties and below is the new top 10 classification.
1. Verstappen
2. LeClerc
3. Perez
4. Norris
5. Alonso
6. Sainz
7. Russell
8. Hamilton
9. Stroll
10. Gasly
The FIA has recommended Red Bull add gravel traps between the last two corners to avoid these track limit issues - Red Bull rejected this as they feel it will hamper MotoGP.

Re: F1 2023 season
A fun race, all in all. Max still streets ahead of the competition but some great drives from Lando and Leclerc. Not Mercedes' finest hour, to say the least.
The whole track limits thing was a complete joke and it was coming close to spoiling what was quite an exciting race.
And, is it me? Or did anyone else see Checo go over that white line many, many times?

Same reason De Vries is in AT. Suspect Lawson will be in the AT seat at some point in the near future. Yuki I would guess will follow honda to AM

Re: F1 2023 season
With regard the Alpha Tauri, maybe there should be less focus on rookie De Vries and more focus on the performance of Tsunoda and the car itself. De Vries is not too far away from Tsunoda in terms of speed but the gap makes more of a difference when the car is towards the back of the field.

Apart from the Red Bull - Verstappen combination who are in a class of their own, the competition behind them seems to be getting interesting. Great qualifying from Piastri, Albon and Hulkenberg. Well done to Norris also. Let's see how the race itself unfolds.

Re: F1 2023 season
Max Verstappen wins the British Grand Prix - his 6th consecutive victory. Only Ascari(7), Rosberg(7) and Vettel(9) have won more consecutive races.
Probably a sweet moment for Verstappen as this one that had escaped him in recently years.
Lando Norris with a brilliant second place, will enhance the feeling he should get a go a Red Bull Racing.
Lewis Hamilton lucks out to third place. He was nowhere all race but safety car played out in his favour.
Oscar Piastri was fantastic and the safety car robbed him of a podium place.
George Russell will be gutted. Did everything right and the cards didn’t fall for him.
1. Verstappen + FL
2. Norris
3. Hamilton
4. Piastri
5. Russell
6. Perez
7. Alonso
8. Albon

Re: F1 2023 season
Despite Sergio Perez' qualifying issues over the past four races he looks nailed on to finish P2 in the drivers championship which is what Red Bull really want and would be a first for them (P1+P2). If people can retain interest in the P3+ positions then it seems to be extremely competitive: with Mercedes, Ferrari, Aston Martin and now McLaren in the mix.

I agree he lucked into third, but to say he was nowhere is harsh, he'd gone long and overcut his way to be comfortably 5th before the SC
Plus if anyone deserves SC luck in their favour after the last couple of years...

100% agree Piastri was unfortunate not to finish P3. Could also hear it in Russell's voice when he heard Hamilton had pitted under the SC as he was hoping to challenge Piastri for P3!

So Ricciardo now happy to accept a drive from a back of the field team? Yes will be interesting to see how far ahead he is of Tsunoda if at all. Think it is unfortunate for DeVries - he was not so far behind Tsunoda - about 0.25 second or so in his rookie season.

To be fair, De Vries had far more experience than a normal rookie. It's harsh but they expected him to perform a lot better considering his Formula E, WEC and three seasons in F2, and plenty of F1 testing.
