First topic message reminder :
Assuming and currently it is quite a big assumption England get through group I can't see them winning QF against whoever they face. Bloody hopeless

It isn't.
We're focusing on the basics though right. Lineout amd scrum will come!

Martin not covering himself in glory so far… missed a tackle and fluffed a lineout.

An important tackle from Marchant there. That kick was a good bounce from a 50/22. Then a suddenly a very good Marchant tackle from Samoa breaking loose.

England lost three line outs so far. To Samoa.
No disrespect to them, they've been excellent but if England have ambition that's not good enough.

Yeah but they have McFarland disrupting a lot through the game to be fair. One of the very best.

How in any world is that penalty only? You can see the contact with George;s chin under the 13’s armpit.

And Farrell’s glorious evening continues. It’s like he got the kicking record and switched off.

I'd honestly forgotten that rule change had come in. So poor. So frustrating.

Where is the justification for bringing him back in this match? He's interrupted a winning team and been awful.

This is schoolboy error time, just when England need to get their act together.

Yet when another team (Ireland?) did it early in the tournament they took the graphic off the screen and gave it ...

15 minutes left to not bring 2 firsts for Borthwick. Yellow now gives us an opportunity. Come on England you can do it.

Samoa had a chance of topping the group but now I think they could be heading home

The whole team sets that up, and then Farrell throws a shocker.

Absolutely not. I'll give the players a bit of a free pass for playing under what I clearly have expressed is a coaching unit I don't rate but I also think it's fair to applaud players who are great. I'd honestly have mc Farland very near to starting in my all time world 15. He's fantastic.

And this is what happens if you don’t select an actual Number 8.

It happens with specialist number 8s as well. Earl's control at the base has largely been fine whilst playing there for England.Poorfour wrote:And this is what happens if you don’t select an actual Number 8.

Oh I agree. I'm just saying 1 of the reasons the lineout is bad is that McFarland is 1 of the best counter jumpers around. Possibly the best. If I've unintentionally given you the impression that this England team impresses me beyond the jokey back slapping I was giving it through the warm ups I apologise.
Though at least the changes the front row are paying dividends for us.

Anyone looking forward to an Italy esque interview from Borthwick. Should we win of course.

Anyone looking forward to not listening to the post match interviews because they are pretty much pointless and never offer any insight regardless of the individuals involved?

Care has done more for England in 20 minutes than most of the team in 80.

Made a very mediocre Samoa team look quite good. Terrible display. Fiji should send England packing next week.

That highlights the problem there, we needlessly kick the ball away in their 22 and nearly concede the try. Why? Even if we concede the penalty they get to half way at best, absolutely braindead.

To be fair they really upped their game today. Their other performances this RWC have been very mediocre but for large parts of this game they were genuinely good.
Must have been one of the longest games with no major injury stoppages though. What was it? 4 disallowed tries?
