2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread gets continued another time!
First topic message reminder :
We are just under three weeks away from the end of the window, when it slams shut, and none of the big names from the Premier League have gone anywhere. Suarez, Rooney, Bale could all leave, but the tables have turned and at least 2 of the 3 look likely to stay where they are.
Will business slow down as the Premier League season starts this Saturday before a late flurry as panic sets in, squads are closer to confirmation and the window closes?

I'll be honest, whenever I've seen him, I haven't seen a lot more. decent squad player but not much elseDolphin Ziggler wrote:Nah, theres a lot more to Parker than that. Ive quite enjoyed watching Spurs fans turn their nose up at him, but before last season he was one of their best players and was easily ours for about 4 years in a row. Last year he actually played a more sedate role for Spurs, but it was decided his legs were gone rather than he just wasnt playing a swashbuckling role anymore.
I also dont like Barry, it saddens me that he has won a Premier League medal

I liked Barry at Villa, but when he went to City his game diminished. Parker on the other hand has been solid ever since he left Chelsea, and even at the Euros was still playing well. People really do love to jab their knives at people for no reason.

Scott Parker is definitely better than Barry, he's a great little defensive midfielder with an underrated passing and attacking ability. He's much more mobile than Barry and offers more.

I think the injuries cloud people's judgement on Parker, I thought that he+Gerrard was a fine partnership for England at the Euros. It was the forwards, wide players and CBs that didn't look good.
I also think that Jordan Henderson should be Parker's replacement in the England team. Get him moulded into the quintessential midfield general now, then have Wilshere the creative spark and Rodwell the bruiser. That threesome, properly trained up, grown, and experienced, could be very, very good.

You are talking about the same Euros, right? The one where we were solid at CM but couldn't create a chance to save our lives?

All we did in that tournament is sit back, put 10 men behind the ball and hope we can win a FK or something
It was absolutely embarrassing as an England fan. Watching Italy in particular give us a footballing lesson.

You seem to be blaming Gerrard and Parker for that, Gerrard was the only England player to make the team of the tournament, he and Parker were very good in the middle.
The France game we should have lost.
The Sweden game we were lucky to win.
The Ukraine game we were lucky to win.
The Italy game we were lucky to get to penalties.
But none of that was on G+P, they were two of England's better players.

It played to Parkers strengths perfectly. Run a lot, make some Tevez style sliding blocks, don't worry about keeping it.
Wasn't particularly hard to be one England's better players. They were mostly useless.
Outplayed by Italy and France is one thing, outplayed by the likes of Ukraine and Montenegro recently is just sad. I want an England team that's arrogant, not one that plays like a bunch of school kids meeting their idols

God knows how 'Stevie G' got in that, look at the other names in there:
Khedira
Ozil
Pirlo
De Rossi
Alonso
Busquets
Xavi
Iniesta
Basically a selection of the best midfielders in the world, from the 3 best teams in the tournament. Plus Gerrard.
Thank God Terry didn't get in, that's all I can say.....

Bale's deal likely to go through on Friday, how long before Suarez follows suit? And Rooney goes to Chelsea?

These limitations seem to crop up a lot more for England than they do at club level.

England vs Scotland was played like a PL game. When we come up against continental teams, we struggle mightily.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread gets continued another time!
Think there may be a trust issue as, generally, our top players play at a club level that is, frankly, above that of the national side. As a consequence they don't play with the freedom they do for their club as, basically, they don't trust their team-mates not to screw it up.GSC wrote:These limitations seem to crop up a lot more for England than they do at club level.

*Searches memory*
Johnson had a good chance, Young had a brilliant chance, Rooney had a couple of decent ones, we should have had a penalty, and I think Parker had a half-chance from the edge of the box. Oh and Welbeck skimmed the bar I think.
England should have won that ya know. We'd have probably lost to Germany in the semis though.

Oh yeah, Italy certainly deserved to win, but England also had plenty of chances to pinch it. A very valiant effort from England at that tournament, considering the change in coaching staff, and the injuries that England were suffering.TopHat24/7 wrote:And now chuck in all Italy's half and missed chances to balance that lot out.......Duty281 wrote:*Searches memory*

We have a brilliant chance next summer if our best players stay fit, our best chance since...well 1970 I guess.

The best chance we had of winning anything was last decade when we had genuine world class players, we now have about one.

He screwed us, so screw him
He's not retired, so we'll have to see how it goes. He'll have some amends to make up if he has just had a wobble, but if there has been a death close to him, then he goes with our blessing.

Scott Sinclair signs for West Brom on loan, with a view to a permanent deal. Good signing from West Brom, although it's another loan deal, expect that has to do with wages. I rate Sinclair and think Manchester City were silly not to use him, particularly when they really lacked width.
