Quiz Thread
First topic message reminder :
I am sure the exists somewhere already but the idea is that you post quiz questions for the rest of us to tackle.
To get us going I will go for a gentle question from yesterdays pointless.
The concept of pointless is that the question is given to 100 people before the show, and each correct answer is accompanied by the number of people in the 100 test group who gave that answer.
The more obscure answer score lower points and are therefore better.
The question was,
Name any UK golfer who has represented Europe in the Ryder cup since 1979? Can anyone get a pointless answer. I will restrict this to one name per poster.

Good stabs all so far - though Alli, Lalana and Jagielka all fall into my "more recent" category.
I always found people thought of Gazza or Bobby Moore for E!
Fashanu is good for U and I don't know of any others
Don't bother too much about E but we still need an O and the more challenging I and A from before the last few years .. I have a suspicion Kwini may be the only one to get the bonus for the original A!

My faith in Kwini was justified! Jimmy Melia was the difficult A before the days of Lalana etc. I think Melia won one cap though I've not checked
Bonetti good too - the only I that I know of
Salako and Dorigo were the two Os I was thinking of - not sure of the others

I can only say that it helps to be ancient enough to have seen most of these guys play . . . . . .
Two other top players from one's youth are Tony Macedo (goalie of the fine Johnny Haynes Fulham teams late 50's/early 60's - might have played for Gibraltar, not sure but was mildly surprised he hadn't played for England) and Tony Marchi (wing-half for Spurs behind Blanchflower & Mackay).

Tennis 2011 saw a remarkable year from Novak Djokovic, but also of dominance from the top 4 (Djokovic, Federer, Nadal and Murray). Of all ATP tournaments that year in which at least one of the top 4 was playing, only one tournament was won by a member outside the top 4. Who won that tournament? (bonus point if you can say which tournament it was)

Sorry, tricky question, but couldn't think of any other off-hand.
SR is correct with Soderling (it was in Rotterdam, where Murray crashed out in R1 in his then usual post-AO flunk).
over to you

Mac,
No clues for the Kompany etc question?
Thinking there's a trick in there somewhere; Tim Howard?
(Incidentally Tourettes Tim does a very creditable job on Prem commentaries from time to time on NBC TV.)

Hamann was definitely at Newcastle so it could have been them rather than Fulham. Fulham was just a guess at the link

someone more left field then...
didn't Giroud score a hattrick in the CL recently? could well have scored one in the prem too, not sure about FA cup?
Alan Shearer? He'll almost certainly have some in the Prem and FA Cup, and played the odd CL season, not sure if he scored a hattrick though...
