Quiz Thread
First topic message reminder :
I am sure the exists somewhere already but the idea is that you post quiz questions for the rest of us to tackle.
To get us going I will go for a gentle question from yesterdays pointless.
The concept of pointless is that the question is given to 100 people before the show, and each correct answer is accompanied by the number of people in the 100 test group who gave that answer.
The more obscure answer score lower points and are therefore better.
The question was,
Name any UK golfer who has represented Europe in the Ryder cup since 1979? Can anyone get a pointless answer. I will restrict this to one name per poster.

Re: Quiz Thread
I still have no takers for the most recent instance of a British (English in this case) two-sport international sportsman; major sports, rugby counted as one, last time played at international level in the early 70's.

Whilst you're mulling over your response to the multi-sport international:
Adam Scott recorded two double bogeys in yesterday's final round at Doral.
Who is the last player to win on the PGA Tour to clock up two doubles in his final round?
Clue: It occurred within the last five years . . . . . . .

No, Max Woosnam's CV is extraordinary, but past history compared to the most recent - 60's or later - double sport international.

It won't be me, because I don't even understand the question.
"capped" must be some British Slang that I don't understand.

Re: Quiz Thread
Capped means getting an appearance for a country, stemming from a time when you used to be awarded a cap for every appearance you made.

Re: Quiz Thread
Mac,
I'm really surprised that no-one has solved it.
In one of the relevant sports, the player had a pretty distinguished career, below the very top class perhaps but still . . . . an international career spanning 14 years; in the other, he was a one-cap wonder, vs Wales in 1956.

Texas is the biggest state, and I would guess that Yellowstone is the biggest National Park in the contiguous US.

Are we being hyperbolic with the term United States Kwini? Are we perhaps talking about something else other than 'Murca?

Re: Quiz Thread
Not at all; this is a State or National Park entirely within the boundaries of a "mainland" American State, and not one of the biggest States either, certainly not in the top ten in total area.

Thought it might have been some crafty "national park" on the moon or something like that.

Re: Quiz Thread
So yellowstone is the biggest National park but there is a State Park that is larger in terms of area than it?

the dual sportman could be Mike (M.J.K.) Smith? Warwickshire and England captain, and IIRC played a spot of rugby in his youth. Not sure if he was capped by England, but he fits the time frame.

Well done Chelsea,
Thought you'd (and some others for that matter) would get that. MJK Smith it is, played rugby for England vs Wales in 1956, played cricket (including some Tests as Captain) until 1972.
He and Arthur Milton (who apparently was a sporting genius according to old friends who knew him) overlapped with MJK but don't think he played after about 1960.
Phew!

Hey, Eyetoldyouso!
Adirondacks it is.
Apparently you could squeeze Yellowstone, the Everglades, Glacier and Grand Canyon National Parks in and still have room left over.
1/3 the land area of NYState. Beautiful too, just ask Shotrock. I can see it from here . . . . . .
