Quiz Thread
First topic message reminder :
I am sure the exists somewhere already but the idea is that you post quiz questions for the rest of us to tackle.
To get us going I will go for a gentle question from yesterdays pointless.
The concept of pointless is that the question is given to 100 people before the show, and each correct answer is accompanied by the number of people in the 100 test group who gave that answer.
The more obscure answer score lower points and are therefore better.
The question was,
Name any UK golfer who has represented Europe in the Ryder cup since 1979? Can anyone get a pointless answer. I will restrict this to one name per poster.

I did have to JFGI.
Probably need to be a (big) fan of the club, a Chaser or quiz legend. I'm not 100% convinced the player would get it right!

For anyone still guessing the player can rank West Ham, Chelsea and Arsenal among the other teams he has played for.

I remember you mentioning him a couple of times in your column, Kwini. Sorry to have jumped all over that one. Set another question and I'll step away from the keyboard

Now I've had to look this up, so it might be a bit out of date. So for you non Googlers who holds the record for most holes in one on the PGA Tour and who holds it for the ET? Surprisingly both the same number.

Nope and nope. Around the right age group. He doesn't play on the regular tour any more. Hasn't set the Champions tour alight either.

Re: Quiz Thread
Kwini I think that is correct.
Ok next question
Tiger woods is probably the greatest matchplayer of the post war era with 3 US junior amateurs, 3 US amateurs, 11-1 playoff record on the PGAT, 4/6 wins in ryder cup singles and 3 WGC matchplay victories.
But who was the only player to defeat Tiger in a PGAT play off and for bonus points what was the event?

Billy Mayfair, at the LA Open, but not on Riviera Golf Course. It was at Valencia Golf Course.

GPB,
How come you don't get any of the football questions? Not good enough . . . . . . .
Hey,
I've got one:
Who is the most recent instance of a British sportsman being capped in two major sports?
Not Denis Compton, Arthur Milton, Willie Watson etc, more recent than that.

You mean soccer? I don't know much of anything about soccer.
I guess I could stump the board by asking Baseball questions!
Can we do geography questions?
This is one of my favorite geography questions.
What's the closest U.S. State to the African Continent?

For cross code was it the woman (Romero?) who was a rower then crossed over to cycling. Representing both in the olympics.

Maine is the closest US state to Africa.
INW's revised guess is correct.
Edit. The Southern tip of Greenland is closer to Africa than Florida by 1500 miles.

No Mac,
They are traditional British major sports, football, cricket, rugby union/league, tennis, golf . . . . . . . and it IS a sportsMAN.
Last played in an international/test within the past fifty years.
Nice one GPB, Might have guessed, but wouldn't have "known".
