Quiz Thread
First topic message reminder :
I am sure the exists somewhere already but the idea is that you post quiz questions for the rest of us to tackle.
To get us going I will go for a gentle question from yesterdays pointless.
The concept of pointless is that the question is given to 100 people before the show, and each correct answer is accompanied by the number of people in the 100 test group who gave that answer.
The more obscure answer score lower points and are therefore better.
The question was,
Name any UK golfer who has represented Europe in the Ryder cup since 1979? Can anyone get a pointless answer. I will restrict this to one name per poster.

Re: Quiz Thread
Bob,
No and Yes!
Martin Laird won the Valero Texas Open in 2013 when it was played immediately prior to The Masters. Funky dates that year, something to do with not playing "Houston" on Easter or some such wrinkle.
But Martin Laird is correct, and he DID win the API to secure an invite, but that tournament was not played immediately prior to Augusta.

Name the song, the year of the songs release and Masters champ of that year?

And a bonus point for identifying WTF accent he has. Worse than ever.

Well the song is "Everything she does is magic" by The Police, but as to year and who won the Masters that year, no idea.

Jussi's let in 613. Interesting that three out of four are non-British, not sure I'd've guessed that.

I don't think this is the correct answer, but what about Hunter Mahan? Only as he qualified for all of them prior to this year, didn't he?

I actually don't know the answer but your reasoning seems sound. Hopefully kwini or some of the other more knowledgeable posters can chip in.

Got to be Tiger Woods surely?!
Might be difficulty to answer properly because I assume you don't get points for winning the Tour Championship itself

Re: Quiz Thread
Good question but never seen anything on records being kept.
Doubt it's Woods though; Mahan or Mickelson might be good guesses, Snedeker too. And DJ.
May do some arithmetic when haven't got anything better to do.
pedro,
Correct, but might still be interesting.

Re: Quiz Thread
The points have been tweaked and play offs are inflated but it could still be interesting. Would also be good to compare regular season vs play off form.
As kwini said googling doesn't get you this stat. It doesn't seem to be on the PGAT site or anywhere available with a quick search.

Agree, could be interesting. Obviously there's some correlation with owgr but not 100%.

Pedro
Our man CHIII is probably the sort of guy a lot higher up the fedex points won since its inception compared to how many OWGR points he has won in that same period.

Re: Quiz Thread
Hmm, format fiddle looks like it was in 2009.
In 2007, Woods had 123,000 points. 2008, Singh had 125,000 points.
Compared to 2015 when Speith had 4,000 points and 2014 when Horshell had 4,750.
Woods also collected 4,000 in 2009. I don't really see how it can't be him but I wait to be corrected

Re: Quiz Thread
I guess we could disregard 08/09 if they had crazy points compared to the following seasons.
mustputt, maybe you should offer up a question that can actually be answered. As mine is a bit of duff for this game.
