2019 Ashes Series Tipping Competition
First topic message reminder :
71st Ashes Tipping Competition Rules:
1.
Pick 2 (two) batsmen and 2 (two) bowlers from both England and Australia who you think will score the most runs and take the most wickets.
You get both batting and bowling points per innings so a bowler who scores runs has both batting and bowling scores added together.
e.g.
Warner, Smith, Starc, Cummins
Roy, Root, Broad, Woakes
2.
Pick 1 (one) fielder from each team; excluding wicket keepers for most catches in the Series.
It can be a bowler (for c&b) if you want.
e.g.
Stokes, Bancroft
3.
Select the total number of catches, stumpings and run outs combined by each wicket keeper for each Test.
If a wicket keeper is injured then the replacement keeper's figures shall be used.
e.g.
Australia 9, England 9. Total dismissals 18
4.
Predict the Toss:
a) Who wins the toss?
e.g. Australia
b) Winning captain's decision - bat or field?
e.g. Bat
5.
a) Predict the 1st Ashes Test result.
e.g. England
b) Predict the overall Ashes Series result.
e.g. England 3 Australia 2
Selections must be posted a minimum one (1) hour before the commencement of each Test. No PM reminders shall be sent.
Scoring:
1.
1 point for every run scored by your nominated batsmen. Add together for each Test.
Bonus 20 points for 100 runs.
extra 25 points for 150 runs.
extra 40 points for 200 runs.
extra 50 points for 250 runs.
extra 60 bonus points for 300+ runs.
Note: the batting & bowling score bonuses accumulate so;
Batting:
100 runs = 120 points. A player scores 127 + 20 = 147 points.
150 runs = 195 points. A player scores 176 + 20 + 25 = 221 points.
200 runs = 285 points. A player scores 243 + 20 + 25 + 40 = 328 points.
250 runs = 385 points. A player scores 282 + 20 + 25 + 40 + 50 = 417 points
300+ runs = 445 points. A player scores 309 + 20 + 25 + 40 + 50 + 60 = 504 points.
Bowling:
20 points per wicket with a bonus 50 points for a 5-fer.
An extra 35 points for 6-fer, 40 for 7-fer, 45 for 8-fer, 50 for 9-fer.
An extra 100 bonus points for a 10-fer.
5 wickets = 100 + 50 = 150 points
6 wickets = 120 + 50 + 35 = 205 points.
7 wickets = 140 + 50 + 35 + 40 = 265 points
8 wickets = 160 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 = 330 points
9 wickets = 180 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 + 50 = 400 points
10 wickets = 200 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 + 50 + 100 = 520 points
Caught and bowled = 20 points for the wicket + 30 bonus points for the catch = 50 points.
2.
Fielder catches: Your nominated fieldsman earns you 25 points per catch and 25 points for a run out.
3.
Wicket keepers: I’ll rank your predictions from the actual scores after each Test. Whoever guesses closest to the actual result receives 100 points, then descending down 5 points, so 95 points for the next closest guess, 90 points for the next, etc. If you chose the same scores as another member… then you'll both receive the same points. Next closest then receives 85, 80, 75, 70... depending on how many of us there are.
4.
a) Correctly predict who wins the toss = 15 points
b) Correctly predict what the winning Captain decides to do = 15 points - only for those with part a) above correct; no points if your a) was incorrect.
5.
a) Correctly predict the winning team for each Test = 75 points. Your selection for each Test must correlate with your overall margin in part b) below.
b) If you guess all 5 Ashes Test outcomes correctly then there is a further 125 point bonus = 375 + 125 = 500 points.
Note: Correctly predict a "Draw" = 75 points
If a selected player gets injured or is dropped from the Test side, then you’ll have the opportunity to select a replacement player – before the next Test commences. This player doesn’t have to be the actual substitute player – it can be somebody already in the team. However, you don’t receive any of their previous points – you must start accumulating points from scratch with them.

Good Luck!

Sorry Soul.. I've got it all down on the spreadsheet but somehow missed it in the post.
Soul Requiem: Root/Stokes/Woakes/Archer - Smith/Head/Cummins/Siddle - Buttler/Wade - Eng 8, Aus 9 - England/Field - Draw (England 3-1)
Is that right?

Geez... I wish they'd name the final XIs. Bloody mind games again!
Feel a little bad about not letting Compelling & Rich change his toss prediction.
If we allow that; then I suppose everyone will have a chance to modify their selection.
What does everyone think? Not much time to go now is there?
I don't want to cause any unnecessary confusion or gripes... or someone now wanting to change their 2nd Test winner/result.

thought was in rainy stop start conditions if the toss was today they would bowl. tomorrow has the best of the weather so think they'll bat now
Sorry compelling, I can't do that. Everyone was locked in well before the scheduled toss. We were all in the same boat. It was frustrating I know.
I also don't want to set a precedent whereby everyone wants to tweak their selections when weather delays occur just prior to commencement.
I hope you understand.
no worries pal, I would have been wrong anyway

We all get his designated concussion substitute - Labuschagne. So I'm basically stitching his runs onto Smith's for the rest of the match.

I think Broad's 5-fer on the first day of the 1st test helped those who had him, Olly.
Also picking the win and the draw... getting the toss correct and 1/2 correct winning toss decisions helped too. That probably explains the situation I'm in. I just call it lucky. So far only though. We're not even halfway yet.
I think picking Warner (like about half of us still are), Roy and Ali in the 1st test didn't help your cause.
Plus you had Anderson too... to make things even worse. Also only one correct match result out of two.
That all adds up... for less than what the one running the game picked. Does that make sense?
Hang in there though. I can drop like a rock anytime and you may yet rocket up to the top. (although that's not looking likely right now)
As I always say there can be wild swings on the board pretty quickly... just like the matches themselves.

Of course, you can change all of your 4 players and 2 fielders if you want, KP_f.
Thinking some wholesale changes myself along with the forced one of Smith.
I noticed you cleverly didn't have Warner. I want to ditch him too now but what chance he finds some form?

Can I change some English players too?
Maybe I misunderstood the rules of game and thought our player selection was fixed for the series ( unless there were injuries or player dropped)

Selectors not making things easy by keeping things dark...
Will have Labuschagne for Smith ; Head for Warner. (If Cummins were to not play - unlikely - I would sub in Pattinson.)
For England , same bats , Archer for Woakes since Root apparently won't give him the ball !
No change to keepers.
England to win toss and bat. And win the match.
Nearly forgot : Bancroft replaces Smith for Aussie catches.

Cheers guys.
Just waiting for Compelling's final selections.
Soul, if Hazlewood isn't in; then Pattinson... or Lyon?
Also you've got Harris as your catcher... do you mean Head?

I've gone for Harris catching, I would assume he'll be the close fielder if Bancroft isn't playing.
If not Hazlewood then Lyon.
Many Thanks

Oh OK... I just saw Harris has replaced Bancroft.
So if anyone wants to swap Bancroft as their Aussie fielder for someone else... let me know. Otherwise I'll sub in Harris for the time being.

OK Alfie. Usman it is. He looks quite relaxed just prior to the match.
(Go Tigers! That was a great finish to the West Coast match last weekend. Felt like a Final.)

You and KP_Fan both got the toss and decision right for 30 points.
Alfie, JD, Guildford, Wadey, Dolphin, Olly, Soul, Superfly and Kumar all scored 15 points for England winning the toss.
Duty, James and yours truly got nothin'.
OK for Pattinson above, KP.

Certainly has been windy down here! Was at a school event in Campbelltown today, the locals were struggling with the cold. Wests Tigers (that may not be what they were called) were training there too

Seems like we all are on board that English batting is not that good. Most of us have selected only 1 proper batsmen. Same is not the case with Australia. We can think other way also, as Aussies lack a good allrounder, and English team has two.
