Very sluggish start from the Lions, getting beaten up at most breakdowns.
Then Farrell with a telegraphed kick and it's 10-0.

Correct - in front of the ball carrier and blocking - poor from the officials

Nope, running an obstructive line like that is legal. There are many tries scored like that.

2 exceptions to that. If the ref sees it as the player is looking at the player and also as above you can't do it in front of the ball carrier. So nope its a pen.

Not if you're running ahead of the ball carrier as you're offside ...

Pack getting mullered, so loose at the breakdown, ponderous and slow. Just poor, no link play, Farrell needs to crank it up.

It’s legal in the NFL, maybe that’s the confusion.

Good news for the tests is that we won't have a South African ref.

If you're in front of the ball carrier you're offside and can't do anything to stop anyone making or attempting to make a tackle - guess Nigel Owens must be wrong too?

Williams off then. Watson already playing full back but given Hogg is isolating with covid we're getting dangerously close to Daly at 15.

Is this 6-2 bench split here to stay?
That's 2 games in a row now where it seems like a real gamble that's likely to hurt us.
I had never seen this done at test level before this tour.

To be fair, a lot of people prefer him there (including Will Greenwood as he mentioned in commentary on the last game). No 7&1/2 wrote:Williams off then. Watson already playing full back but given Hogg is isolating with covid we're getting dangerously close to Daly at 15.

I know but Nigel picked it up and explained it perfectly - not sure why some think it's OK as it's the same as crossing effectively - running in front of the ball carrier and blocking a potential tackler ...

Yeah. You can also be obstructing while behind even if keeping the same line. Brown was done that way for England towards the end of his career.
Ps think it was greenwood mentioning first.

I’m reading that there was potential foul play with the Liam Williams HIA. Maybe a high hit by Etzebeth? One for analysis at half time perhaps.

Only area where the Lions are better is the scrum. Getting beaten everywhere else and kicking from hand has been awful.
Good work from Kolbe to set up the try.
First test ten days away, huh?

For those that might be interested:
A player is offside in open play if that player is in front of a team-mate who is carrying the ball or who last played it. An offside player must not interfere with play. This includes:
Playing the ball.
Tackling the ball-carrier.
Preventing the opposition from playing as they wish.
