Juventus have turned down a 10m offer from Nodge for Quagliarella, looking for 12m apparantly.

Hes 30. For a Norwich side that has suddenly decided its got money to play with, a £12m 30 year old who I will venture isnt desperately motivated by a move to Norfolk, well, spells trouble to me.

It seems he was the other option from Toivonen, so I do wonder if we will go back in for him. He would be perfect for our system, to just sit in the hole behind the striker, and be the creative spark.
And at 30, as an Italian, he's got at least 5000 more years left

You can't really talk like that to employees in any field though, especially not ones who are commodoties.
Woodward was vice president or something before working under Gill, he will have a clue how to run things/negotiate transfers etc.
I know Maybe not those exact words but they could ask him (and Moyes for that matter) to wait and not say anything to the press until both parties have actually sat down and talked to each other.

Well to be honest, we've gone with some pretty low risk, high reward signings so far (Fer, Redmond, Olsson to an extent), and mainly young guys. I wouldn't mind us making a really big signing like this, someone that could be a massive flop, but also a big hit (if worse came to worse, we'd still have Wessi anyways).
Us and Swansea are loving this new TV deal. Having a ball

It's also 10m euros rejected, which isn't quite as extreme as 10m quid (technicality)

I'd be amazed if that was true.
I would be amazed if Arsenal paid £20 million for a player, never mind twice that.

According to Marca, Cazorla to Athletico

Was obvious it was going to be Chelsea. Is there actual confirmation Mata is included in the deal, would be astonishing as he was basically the heartbeat of that side last year. I guess the negotiation games will now commense.
Also, Danny Graham to Hull equals no goals and relegation. Dreadful

BBC saying Chelsea are understood and they are basically guessing between Mata or Luiz. They are hardly confident in the details of the deal. Would not believe that so early on in this deal

I'd pay Rooney + £10m for Mata, he's just what United need. They could sell Kagawa for cash monies and get a backup striker. Or use Hernandez and Welbeck!

I may be patriotic and everything, but if I were Moyes - £10 million and Mata for a player who's heart isn't in the right place = cash in!

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread.......................Continued Again
Your guessing Mata is included. It could be Luiz. Manchester United have rejected the offer for a reason and see that it doesn't benefit them. The goals you lose from Rooney is certainly not gained through Mata, you already have Kagawa, who this season should have a breakthrough year. Would not believe any details of any deal whats over right now.

Christ, I'd do Luiz + £10m as well, he's the DM they need too. Luiz-Carrick with Kagawa ahead of them, give Hernandez a lot more games, and allows Welbeck to play more in a World Cup year.
All round win for Chelsea, United and England

Not really, England are barely even qualifying for the WC. This has no effect on how successful we are, we were struggling before and will continue to do so afterwards.

Exactamundo. Get him to score 1 of every 4/5 chances, and he'll put 20 a season away.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread.......................Continued Again
Still not covinced on Mata being included, more likely Luiz, who is unpredictable, has no settled position or role and that is something Mourinho does not like. Every man in his squad has their set role and job to do, and in the most professional way they can do that job. Also, removing Mata will no doubt upset Torres in some kind of way. Mata was Chelsea`s best player last year, you think Abramovich would want to lose such a player.
Mata is better than Schurlle, Oscar, Moses, Marin, De Bruyne.....u name it. Surprised by Mourinho if true but, as it stands, no official confirmation catergorically states Mata is included or for sale. If he was though, Barcelona would be there in a flash.
If people think Rooney leaving is going to unleash Welbeck into some kind of quality player is sorely mistaken. So far, Moyes is having a stinker.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread.......................Continued Again
You've got to question the handling of this Rooney situation, which so far, has been woeful.
Rooney asks to leave or if not to leave to have his position in the squad qualified.
Moyes comes in and says Rooney will be staying at the club.
Things seem to cool a bit, Rooney is apparently happy to stay, Moyes happy for him to be there.
Inexplicably Moyes decides to say that Rooney is back up.
Everything flares up again, Rooney is angry and confused and wants to leave again.
Manchester United may have rejected a superb bid for them in the form of Mata + £10 million.

The only part of that I dispute is the third line, "Rooney is apparently happy to stay". Moyes was very careful to say things like "he's our player, he's staying here, he's not for sale", rather than "he loves the club and doesn't want to leave, he's excited about the new season and the challenges ahead".
You also forgot the 'injury', which was an excuse to get him back to England before they sell him I reckon.

I do think the story had started to cool when Moyes had been saying that he wasn't for sale. The main stories were that Rooney wasn't going to sign a contract this year, but would likely sign one next year if he does well.

That's exactly the kind of patronising talk that would make Rooney want to leave. He's been United's star player for over 5 years, scored what, 200 goals? 80ish England caps? Being given a new contract 'if he does well' isn't the attitude you want to have to a player of such standing.Crimey wrote:but would likely sign one next year if he does well.

He has not been that consistent though, over the past 5 years at different times he has been a star player, but he's had a lot of poor patches and losses of form.

Moyes isn't an idiot, there's more to this than meets the eye. Rooney = £10m + Mata is a deal Utd should take and laugh at Chelsea. Rooney = £10m + Luiz is a deal Utd should refuse and laugh at Chelsea. Anyway, as I said, there's something going on here.

I'd rather we just paid straight up money for Rooney if we are going to, he would be a great signing. It's fair enough if it is with a player included but I'd rather it wasn't Mata or David Luiz, Luiz had a good season last season and Mata was one of our star players. However I agree with John that out of Mata or Luiz then it's more likely to be Luiz.

There is no way Mata is involved in this deal, at least not yet. Moyes is many things, but he's not a complete idiot. I can't see how he turns down 10 mill + Mata. It makes no sense.

Incredible scenes.
I do think United have handled it poorly, and that Ferguson did no one any favours. Fergie kicked this off then left.
