WI in India - Page 5 Empty WI in India

Post by KP_fan Thu 31 Oct 2013, 10:01 am

First topic message reminder :

The Indian team was declared...Jadeja rested owing to shoulder strain?
why does he continue to bowl in the masala ODIs?
Rohit has been sneaked into the squad

leaving out Zaheer is a mistake.......unless they do not want to risk with Zaheer as one of the bolwers in a 4 man attack given that Jadeja is out.

There was no comeback for Zaheer Khan despite his five wickets in Mumbai's Ranji Trophy opener, and allrounder Ravindra Jadeja was rested because of a shoulder strain, but Ishant Sharma retained his place despite his struggle for form in recent limited-overs games. India's squad also has a spinner of each variety - an offspinner in R Ashwin, a left-armer in Pragyan Ojha and Mishra.

India's top order is fairly settled with Shikhar Dhawan and M Vijay opening, followed by Cheteshwar Pujara, Sachin Tendulkar, who will be playing his final series, and Virat Kohli. Ajinkya Rahane was the incumbent at No. 6 in the fourth Test against Australia in Delhi, but Rohit Sharma could be pushing for a Test debut after consistent limited-overs performances.

Squad: MS Dhoni (capt), Shikhar Dhawan, M Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, R Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Pragyan Ojha, Amit Mishra, Ajinkya Rahane, Umesh Yadav, Shami Ahmed, Rohit Sharma, Ishant Sharma.

from BCCI's website
Ravindra Jadeja has a shoulder strain. The Physiotherapist of the Indian team has advised two weeks’ rest for him, after the end of the ODI series against Australia, as a precautionary measure

5-fers in 5 consecutive innings for Shillingford....that is a WOW achievement
Ashwin blows away a good opportunity to post a solid 50+ score.....India in a hurry to finish it off...although Rohit would have an unbeaten inning in his mind to boost his average

West Indies bowling has been woeful, aside from the excellent Shane Shillingford.

Tino Best is a joke cricketer. Continual sledging. When he's getting carted around everywhere.

Shannon Gabriel doesn't really have a clue where the ball's going.

Darren Sammy never bowls himself.

So Windies are basically a 3 man attack.

Rohit Sharma continues his purple patch with his second Test hundred. First at home ground(so he's as good as Tendulkar in Mumbai...)

Though India lost Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Pragyan Ojha soon after tea, Mohammed Shami gave excellent support to Rohit Sharma and helped him go pass a 50, and then a hundred. Sharma remained not out on 111 as Shami then hold out in the deep, stretching India's first innings to 495. Rohit would have fallen on 85 as he offered a catch in the deep of Shillingford, but the spinner had overstepped by a mile and Sharma survived to make his 2nd consecutive test hundred. Rohit now has 4 international hundreds in his last 9 games for India. A considerable improvement over 6 years of uselessness that had preceded his selection as ODI opener early this year.

Its all over. The test match was done by lunch on day 3 as the West Indies yet again failed to go pass 200. They've done it only ones in this series, and this time, they haven't even survived 2 sessions. Pragyan Ojha led the way with 5 wickets and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 4. Mohammed Shami was called up on to take out the last man, and he obliged his skipper right away by renewing his love-affair with the middle stump.
India won by an innings and 126 runs.

And then it all gave way to a wave of emotions. A career of 24 years, a career that has seen it all, has come to a glorious end with his teammates giving Sachin Tendulkar a fine farewell with an emphatic win. Sachin thanked everyone who assisted him in becoming the legend of a player that he is. Everyone at the ground or watching on TV or reading on the net have said a collective Thank You Sachin.
The stand out thing that he said during his farewell speech is that cricketers are caretakers of the game, that was his message to his team and everyone else, respect the game, act as its custodians.
Farewell Sachin, and thank you very much for all the memories. I hope he will continue to be associated with the game even in his post-playing days.

you know anotehr Mumbaikar started with a bang........his name was Kambli....and even to date his career stats are amazing...FC average of 60 and test match average 54+
He was ripped open when he faced genuine seam , bounce and swing.

I don't think Rohit will be like Kambli......but we've gotta reserve judgement on him like on every Indian batsmen until they travel overseas.

Plus there is the known and oft discussed stigma of unfairly long run compared to likes of Rahane and Tiwary.....which will remain stuck on him for a long time

Sachin conferred with Bharat Ratna........and I would say belated...there isn't a more deserving Indian then him.

He started in times when Indian sports, country, and economy was at it's nadir.....and the tattered nation was looking for a hero.....when he appeared...whacking fiery Waqar for boundaries......and hitting Qadir  for hattrick of sixes.....as a 16 year old ...rose in public imagination and became an icon.
and gave and otherwise allround depleted nation...... a reasons to feel esteemed
and he did stay at those lofty heights for all but last year or so.
I doubt if the human in Tendulkar can analyze the phenomenon he created.....he doesn't need to.

The Bahrat Ratna is a mark of respect to the hero he provided us........and the 100s of millions who religiously followed him

Nobody cares about this series. It will be remembered only for one thing ...Tendulkar's Last Innings.

Fortunately , it was a good one. A reasonably appropriate farewell For which a lot of cricket fans , not all Indian , will be grateful.

Not too sure there alfie. If young Indian batsmen, Dhawan, Pujara and Rohit Sharma go on to establish themselves as batsmen for all conditions, if young Mohammed Shami is able to emerge as a quality seamer and establish a long career, if Ravichandran Ashwin manages to convert his obvious all-round abilities into something very concrete, this series will be remembered for signifying the transition of Indian cricket from the Tendulkar era to a fresh one.
The West Indies played abysmal cricket, had they put up some more fight, there could have been more happy memories to be taken from the series.

Desparately disappointing for Shane Shillingford.

He's already been banned back in 2010 for suspect action.

And TBH he does seem to have huge flexing in his bowling arm.

Trinidadians must be delighted...their son Narine might get a Test recall ahead of the New Zealand series...

well Bedi's theory is and many concurr....you can't bowl a doosra without flexing the elbow more than permissible........and hence every one bowling or attempting a doosra  from...... chauhan to Saqlain to even as far back as Soni Ramadhin...in the past and  Bhajji, Ajmal, Shoiab Malik, Botha and now shillingford are/ were under a cloud.
Swann and Aswhin are clean because their variation is a straighter one / carrom balls which is not really a Doosra.

However once ICC let Murali in through the gate.....in the "mother of all --flexing elbow "  cases.....every one else stopped would feel a bit hard done by.

As most of the rules of the game are made in favor of the batsman, the bowlers can't be blamed for expecting a bit of space for themselves.

West Indies, having won the toss, are batting first in the first game at Kochi. Chris Gayle was run-out after facing only 2 balls, as Bhuvneshwar Kumar's direct hit found him short of the crease. But the greater concern for the West Indies is that Gayle took a big tumble while running and seems to have done in his knee very badly. Johnson Charles then slogged his way to 42 of 34 balls, but then Jadeja took a fine return catch to get him and from then on the Indian spinners took charge. Jadeja and Raina picked up 3 each, Ashwin took 1, and Darren Bravo, who scored a 50 was then done in by Mohammed Shami with a ball that shot through.
West Indies are 209-9 in the 48th over.

both openers gone relatively early...the pitches are better than the ones against Aus.....slow with spin and not easy for stroke making.

250+ will be a defendable score on this pitch.

critcial game for yuvraj......who is back at no.4 ....needs to get a big one today and also in the next game to be in contention for SA.

Raina also hasn't scored for quite some time it seems

Kohli starts toying with the bowling once he crosses 60 odd....sees the ball like a proverbial footbal...and micro gaps magnify as huge channels in his peripheral vision....moves around the crease and finds gaps amazingly.

But there was Dhoni, the ultimate finisher in the world, took his time, put the foot down in the end overs, and ended up with 51 not out of 40 balls and with some help from R Ashwin, dragged the total to 2288-7. That score is looking quite good at the moment, as West Indies have lost Johnson Charles and Marlon Samuels at the score of 23. Bhuvneshwar got Charles, and Mohit picked up Samuels with a smart catch from Dhoni, standing up to the stumps, though Mohit's generating speeds in the mid 130s.

West Indies recovering well through Powell and the younger Bravo. They are 96-2 after 18 overs. Dhoni gave an early bowl to Raina, and though he has been expensive, the skipper has trusted him with 4 overs so far in which he has gone for 27 runs. Ravindra Jadeja hasn't had a bowl as yet, and Mohammed Shami bowled just the one over. There is considerable dew on the field.

Darren Sammy made a meaningful contribution at last and West Indies have won the match. Sammy is a handy limited overs cricketer, the issue is whith him being selected in the test side.
India's catching wasn't good, Dhoni put down a couple and Raina too dropped one. The ground fielding too wasn't very good. The dew might have something to do with it, but they can be better.

The 3rd ODI is happening today. Batting first, the West Indies have scored 263-5 in their 50 overs. After Bhuvneshwar Kumar cleaned up Johnson Charles early, both Kieran Powell and Marlon Samuels made half-centuries to put the West Indies in a good position. But then Powell played a loose shot against Ravichandran Ashwin to get out for 70, then Ashwin produced a pretty good ball to bowl Samuels for 71. Ravindra Jadeja got Lendl simmons to edge behind for not many, and skipper Dwayne Bravo played a reckless shot to aggravate the situation further. Darren Sammy and the younger Bravo then batted through the 50 overs to engineer a bit of recovery at the end, with Bravo remaining not out on 51 and Sammy on 37.

Throughout the series against Aus and now WI.....Raina and Yuvraj have been the batting weak links...in these rather batting friendly conditions and with Kohli, Dhawan, Rohit and Dhoni being in great form.........Raina and Yuvar's limitations have not hurt India much.

however in foreign conditions we will need every one of our 6 batsmen....
Raina is untouchable as I have said often and proven from him being promoted to a Grade-A contract

so atleast Yuvraj needs to show more consistency or be replaced by Rayadu / Pujara
