Australian Open 2012 Day 14 - Men's Final
First topic message reminder :
Unfortunately, I have a match this morning so I won't be watching live.....but please leave your comments here....
For now I'll remind everybody what Djokovic thinks about it.
“There is no secret it is going to be physical again,” Djokovic said. “I will do my best to recover. I have a day and a half. I will try to get as much sleep and recovery program underway and hope for the best. I think that's going to be crucial, you know, for me to recover and to be able to perform my best, because Rafa is fit. He's been playing well. He had an extra day. He definitely wants to win this title.”

Do you think Djokovic was unplayable for a peak Nadal today? I think Djokovic would lose today if Nadal plays with the same aggresive play that he does against Federer. DJokovic hasn't had to play like he did at USO, Nadal's gave him so many free points.socal1976 wrote:Anybody not named Fed is either boring, inferior, or a cheat. Pretty sad

Nothing just the fed apologists continually have to denigrate every other great champion and have to constantly pretend like the era of Roddick was so brilliant while these guys are either dull or can't play. It is quite pathetic actually, too bad boring Djokovic was able to figure out how to return Nadal and change direction on his backhand a 100 times better than federer and god Roger wasn't.

I don't know about not being named Fed but not playing by the rules is probably pretty close to the definition of a cheat.

No if anything Nole beats Nadal because Nole is a master at changing direction and forceing Nadal to run with his down the line backhand. Something that Roger with his sissy, effeminate one hander can't do well enough to beat Nadal. If not losing matches to Nadal in a flurry of unforced errors for nearly a decade makes Novak boring Ill take boring.

Socal I don't dispute Federer plays like an idiot against Nadal, infact I was criticising Federer heavily for his collapse against Nadal. But this Nadal has not played anywhere near as good as he did in the semi. Djokovic hasn't hit many unreturnable balls, but Nadal keeps donating points.

So much Fed obsession. Shouldn't it be his admirers brining him into everything?CaledonianCraig wrote:socal1976 wrote:Nothing just the fed apologists continually have to denigrate every other great champion and have to constantly pretend like the era of Roddick was so brilliant while these guys are either dull or can't play. Roger maybe be a goat but he hits his flat up the line backhand like a girl and that is why he can't beat Nadal. Maybe he should have asked Djokovic for lessons. Check that worse than a girl Henin hits that shot much better than Roger.
Go Novak keep the pressure up.

So many complaining about boredom and still watching or following the game. There are like a million other things you could be doing with your time.
As for Nole, the guy is just incredible.Rafa may as well retire if this season follows last year's script.

Exactly, if you are bored don't watch. I like the tennis, in fact i can't watch a feder nadal match with much enthusiasm because unless its in an indoor match I know who is going to win. Talk about watching the same point over and over again.
This is still very much a contest.

Re: Australian Open 2012 Day 14 - Men's Final
That great commentator John Lloyd(??) said that he reckoned Grand Slam Mens Singles should remain as best of five because of the drama - which occurs four times a year. All other tournaments are best of three. The call to reduce it to best of three is the increase in match length towards the latter stage of the grand slams. The suggestion to reduce the GS to best of three seem to be from the TV companies.

Nadal just had a major swing slightly in his direction coming back from saving three break points. Not sure whether it would have affected Djokovic - he seems to be in the "zone".break_in_the_fifth wrote:Who do you think will come back stronger after the delay?

Re: Australian Open 2012 Day 14 - Men's Final
Well Nadal should feel energized, but honestly I don't think it matters. Even if Nadal breaks Novak and somehow wins the set Novak can just return Nadal too well and almost every service game is a struggle.

Totally predicable development as they turn the game into ping pong.Nore Staat wrote:That great commentator John Lloyd(??) said that he reckoned Grand Slam Mens Singles should remain as best of five because of the drama - which occurs four times a year. Stand by for no advantage proposals, tie breaks at 5-5 and various other nonsense.
