The greatest ever 606 characters, wummers and beefs? Old and new
First topic message reminder :
Can all get a bit serious on here, so why not reminisce a little?
Funniest characters, beefs you have had, wummers you love to hate, the whole capang.
Beefs: I haven't had many really. Just short lived ones. I think Seanmichaels threatened to "find me" once (might not have been him) on the old 606, but we're golden now haha.
I also beef with Az ona reg basis here.
For me the old Dave667 v Truss battles were funny. Dave doesn't post so much now but he was always fun.
Truss and his aliases like Wussman (remember him?)
The way Windmill put people down in such a scholarly fashion.
Shenglong, brilliant. When he used to put his headlinesque posts on the beeb site, haha.
Steffan was fun.
Emore makes me laugh.
Loved Howthefook on the old site. Such a nice guy from his posts. Shame he left. Pacman79 was cool, too
And Spring. The original Spring, brilliant. "Marquez is ducking Naz cos...."

I don't really recall Manos ever owning me, he's more eloquent than me but other than that his arguments always seem a bit simplistic. Chris, Windy, Oxy and the Captain have owned me a fair few times of that i'll admit.

Coxy
Jones win over Hopkins is a great win...Hopkins is to blame for the rematch not happening.
No way did he deserve a 50/50 split with a guy he already lost to.

Imperial Ghosty wrote:My name is a homage to Wilde so I may be a bit biased but as far as i'm concerned it's not even close between the two.
Well I wouldn't take huge exception to anyone placing Wilde higher than Jones. I'd disagree, but that's by the by. However, I'm really struggling to see how Wilde could be ahead to the extent of it not even being close. Surely Jones couldn't be more than a small slither behind, if he is at all?
Longevity at the highest level, dominance against his peers in his peak years, moving up the weights; Wilde was no slouch in these departments, but Jones bests him in all of these areas, doesn't he?
I appreciate that Wilde was seldom more than around 102 lb when at his best, and so his pair of wins over a top class Bantamweight champion like Lynch deserve a huge level of commendation, but he was also trounced first time out by Lee (flu or not, he took a severe beating), was beaten pretty conclusively by Herman etc. I won't hold the Villa loss against him, for obvious reasons. But Jones went from what should have been a Light-Middleweight gold, to a Middleweight world title, to a Super-Middleweight title, to unifying the Light-Heavyweight division and then claiming a Heavyweight strap not only without losing legitimately once, but without even being stretched.
I could be wrong, and perhaps Wilde does belong ahead of Roy in the all-time pound for pound ratings. But if he does, it can't be by anything more than an extremely thin margin.

I don't think it was the best version of Hopkins as he was fairly inexperienced and he relied on that during his pomp (Joppy, Holmes and Trinidad period) but the talent was always there so don't think you can simply play him down as being green.

By the way, fellas, I don't think anyone 'owns' anyone else on these kind of threads. Maybe sometimes we've all made ourselves look a bit daft and got carried away, and we've probably all come out on the wrong end of a v2 points decision in a direct debate with someone else at one time or another, but seldom does anyone get 'owned.'
We're all just sharing opinions and our own takes on matters, at the end of the day. Some are more fanciful than others, but that doesn't mean that each debate has a winner and a loser.

The threads that probably made me laugh the most were paperbag punchers sheep games. Great fun, got everyone involved and were actually very informative when you got into them. There were some classics like the 'Adrienne' comment, 'Jeff stelling' and much more

For me it was the Haye Chisora thread after the Vitali fight. Complete and utter mayhem. Some imbecile from the cricket boards came in with a "it was obviously staged dont cha know they do that sort of thing hmmmmmm??" got abused roundly and tried to leave with his dignity intact hoping no one noticed him waddling out with his trousers round his ankles. The international peace activists, lawyers and I swear one person claimed he was a judge or the relative of one.

To be fair I used to enjoy reading the old bbc606 far more than I do these boards, and I don't think it's anything to do with moderation, a quick glance at any other biding forum will make you realise how well run this place is. Just think the mix of characters on bbc was fantastic and lead to great debate mixed with obvious wummary...
Sometimes you need to put up with a lot of rubbish to get the odd brilliant article (d4 being a decent example).

Good shout there, Shah. That thread was hilarious, sombre, interesting, lamentable, memorable, regrettable and a load of other things rolled in to one.
Going back to the old 606, Truss' 'Time to rewrite boxing history!' thread and Green Giant's leaving article were superb, for differing reasons!

Dave and Trussy's battles were funny and Dave got a retirement out of the Manc (sorry I meant Yank) but I don't think anyone got under Truss's skin more than Azumah. Maybe LRR was not far behind.
When Shenglong turned his attention to battling Truss he retired Truss within a day. Hacked Truss' account from memory.

Yeh, Truss was harping on a month or two back about leaving the boards (again) and going to a much better (think it was ja606, or not606) forum. Checked out said form and it was utter cack.

Think he was banned. Left voluntarily when an "all things Pac" thread was created and any thread he started got merged into it which really pi$$ed on his parade but then came back, spammed the boards and was promptly banned.

The end of the decade was one of my favourites. It's a pity McLusky doesn't post on here - he used to wind Truss up something terrible.
Good to see Haito there as well - he's made a few appearnces on her but it's been fleeting.

Jaspa was a nice enough guy but I tihnk he got bullied off the board by fightnews. I think Jaspa had recreated an article from somewhere else and fightnews had a go at him claiming that he had stolen it and passed it off as his own.
It was a shame, not least because Jaspa rather misguidedly put me in the same bracket as windy, the captain, jimmy, chris and rowley in terms of knowledge. As McLusky put it at the time, if they're premier league, I'm the old 4th division at best.

Brilliant michaels. Brilliant. That contains my ATG 606/v2 post:
And his follow ups:
Bring back NovocastrIAN_9 I say.
NovocastrIAN_9 wrote:What I'd suggest it take x1 Pepperami Firestick and x1 bag of Flamin' Hot Monster Munch.
Next thread the Pepperami through the holes in the Monster Munch, thereby creating a kind Pepperami and Monster Munch Firey Hot Kebab on a Skewer.
I did this around a month ago on a Sunday afternoon when badly hungover and it represented, without doubt, the lowest point of my life so far.
And his follow ups:
NovocastrIAN_9 wrote:I've also considered pushing those Burger Bite crisps you sometimes get from Supermarkets through the centre of Onion Ring crisps, so make a kind of Savoury Saturn style combined crisp - but that's just a pipe dream at the moment.
NovocastrIAN_9 wrote:Was it Smith's who used to charge you more for adding salt to your own plain crisps?
It was Smiths and by God was it thrilling to add your own salt. Before that people seldom has the opportunity to put salt on potatos.
Bring back NovocastrIAN_9 I say.
