I don't know, spending £5-10 million on a couple of strikers as well as the free transfer of Anelka may have been adequate.

The Times are suggesting anything from £100 million for Bale to Real Madrid, or £80 million and Luka Modric. #whoknows

We'll be signing two forward players, one of them may be Kalou if he wants to come, so with three bought in plus Long, Rosenberg and Berainho, that will be more than enough.

They try a publicity stunt and then sign the worst-looking (IMO) member of One Direction. Own goal.

If Brighton did that, would keep me away from the stadium. Nothing but a publicity stunt and im not impressed, why should Doncaster fans pay to see someone who isn't a pro footballer?

QPR Sign Charlie Austin from Burnley - Credit where it's due, huge signing for Harry, a lot of pressure on QPR to succeed next season. Think all 3 sides that came down are looking very strong for next season. However i see Burnley as potential relegation candidates.
Leyton Orient sign Johnny Gorman from Wolves - Sir Russel Slade has a good eye on young players getting released and making them into good players at league one level. Top manager.
Torquay sign Karl Hawley from Scunthorpe - Always scored goals at this level, good signing.

Actually unlike most sides in the league, we don't need publicity stunts to sell out our stadium. We let our Spanish flare do the talking

Tottenham sign Saldado for £26 million. Tottenham doing well in the transfer market, even if that price does seem to be a bit steep.

Another decent signing, albeit for an inflated fee for some reason. Tottenham have needed a top quality striker for a while now and Soldado should fill that hole quite nicely with Defoe and Adebayor as back up.
If they can keep Bale, this will be seen as a successful window I'd have thought.

`my current squad is good enough`. Arsene Wenger August 1st 2013.
Good enough for what? Good enough to struggle to make the top 4, is that really how ambitious you are? £70m in the kitty doing nothing.
If Spurs miraculously kept Bale & you add in the new signings, in my opinion Arsenal are in trouble. Even if a suspended Suarez joined along with possibly a Begovic or a Cesar. Spurs have made a statement, now its time for Wenger to show his cards.
@crime - Spurs paid an inflated fee because of these Spanish release clauses, I mean Christian Tello has a £21.8m release clause.....wouldn't pay that in a million years. Some ridiculous clauses knocking about.

Liverpool make a 21m bid for Diego Costa.
I'll be honest, I can't say I was particularly impressed whenever I watched Atletico last season. Spent more time on the floor than actually playing

Diego is a footballing troll worse then Barton on occasions. Talented though.
Can't see him wanting to swap Athletico's bench for Liverpool's so could signal the end of Suarez.

A bit worried with that signing, it's a lot of money for a striker with a pretty poor record who has failed to ever establish himself in an Atletico Madrid side which has never had great depth.
Hoping the deal doesn't go through to be honest.

To be fair, he did have probably the word's best out-and-out striker ahead of him in the pecking order.

Isn't Ayre saying Suarez is going nowhere? Not great for Wenger. Diego is a talented player, inconsistant, but not sure he's what Liverpool really need or that Atletico will want to sell after losing Falcao.

i don't trust anyone in football john after this.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has quashed suggestions that he could move for Tottenham target Santi Cazorla, claiming that he has never heard of the 27-year-old winger
2 weeks later an Arsenal player

Pretty sure in spain it's obligatory to have a release clause in your contract

Can't see Wenger getting Suarez anyway, if you offer £40m just go the extra yard and get the player, why the delay?
Wish we`d signed Bony. Interesting to see how the Europa League effects Swansea
Yeah, it is obligatory. There's some shocking clauses in there.

I don't particularly rate Sturridge but I think he's better than Costa, he's certainly got a better scoring record and doesn't have to adjust to the new league. Aspas also has a similar scoring record despite not being an out an out striker.
Both of them combined equal the price of Costa as well.
I'm really not happy with that deal, it's not even for a position that particularly needs strengthening and as a replacement for Suarez (if that's what it is) it is woeful. Would rather a new centre back is brought in as worryingly throughout pre-season Kolo Toure has been first choice.

They've made some really good signings. Bony is a huge upgrade on Graham/Moore/Schechter (i dunno), and if him and Michu can strike a good partnership, they'll be a hell of a side

I hear they worked well tonight. It's certainly fearsome if Bony can adjust to the league unlike many players who have moved from the Eredivisie. Also I think you might be right with them finishing ahead of the Merseyside clubs (in 12th, 11th and 10th respectively ). Worth a couple of quid?

I think it could be.
I'm not usually a great fan of Swansea, but think they're gonna be something special this year.
Not a fan of what Liverpool are doing in the window, and I think Martinez will take time to settle at Everton.
Just fancy the Swans to continue on their upward curve

Sincerely hope for your sanity Kolo Toure playing pre-season is merely just rotation...
As for the Costa deal, don't see it happening. Awful lot of cash for a position that Liverpool are fairly stocked at (even if Suarez goes)

Aren't Liverpool still looking likely to get Papadopolous from Schalke as well? Whilst I rate him highly I think that's a bad move for all, he's short for a CB and aggressive, had a lengthy injury and being paired with Toure will be just asking for trouble.

I presume he plays the Suarez role but an even more withdrawn one, a little like a false nine but with a bit more impetus in goalscoring. I cant see Suarez staying if Costa really is going to happen.
Swansea have the Europa League to contend with remember, the smaller sides do struggle with the balance (plus Malmo are crap remember)

The forward we were in for was apparently Werder Bremen striker Marko Arnautovic. Wee Jack Sullivan claims we had a deal agreed with him and his agent but the player has now decided he wants to go play in Spain (Im guessing theres actual interest from Spain, its not just that he wants a kickabout). Deal isnt 100% dead, little Jack and his Dad are clearly seething, but I expect this one to be gone.
Wish we'd go get Loic Rapey instead

I think that's a better deal than pure cash because they're only going to see all fees inflated once they try to sign people afterwards, so getting players as part of the deal would make sense.

It won't happen anyway though, swap deals are always rumoured but I can't think of many that have ever actually happened. The Eto'o Ibrahimovic one is the biggest one there has been and that was 4 years ago now. Just lazy journalism.
